For those that use them, what models do you use?? Likes & dislikes?? I've used the Wildlife series before, but it seems to not give a good signal in hilly terrain.

I haven't found any that the hills don't effect. I have a Wildlife with 3850 collars(small collars for beagles) & I have A MN-10 with 16,000 hour collars for my coyote hounds. I get better range with the 16,000 hour collars, but I like my Wildlife box better.

That's what I used, the Wildlife 3850. For AKC events, there is a weight allowance & those & a few other units meet them(for the pointing dogs, not hounds, posted here since I knew a lot of houndsmen use them). I wasn't sure if it was just this particular unit or all that terrain affected like that. Thanks for the info!

I like my quick-track unit. It has worked real well for me with the q-track collars.

i`ve had both wildlife and quick track, in my opinion the wildlife doesn`t even come close in comparision to the qt. the qt is by far a much better unit.

I use Wildlife Materials on both my coonhounds and beagles. I have not had to leave a dog overnite in 4 years. I have been using the Garmin Astro for awhile also, it is very cool but they need to change a few things to get it right.

I have heard the antennas break off easy, but that's about all I've heard so far as for performance.

The range is poor maybe 2 miles around here. A little less when the leaves are on. The best part is the fact you have a last known location on the dog. Get there and you will pick 'em up again. You can tell where the dog, is down to the foot, and what they are doing. You can see when they are headed for a road and exactly where they are gonna cross. If a dog is treed a mile away, you can tell if there is an easy way to get to them. Saves a lot of time. Ever walk to a tree 3/4 mile away and then find them treed next to a road? The antennas are a problem, but shrink wrap will stop that. I would like to see longer battery life and a smaller transmitter on the dog. Riding on the back of a dogs neck is a pain, it needs to be shaped more like a telemetry collar. The thing was designed for birddogs and us houndsmen will see it change soon to suit our needs. As it is now it is perfect for a pointing dog! Beeper collars will soon be obsolete.

I know some bird dog guys who complain about the units because of being on a harness......a lot of our dogs will go to thick cover also(all mine do), especially grouse hunting, I've had mine break an e-collar unit before(Innotek) and numerous beepers, I can't imagine running one with a harness on. I also carry a staple gun now, got sick of paying a vet to suture up gashes from barbed wire, rose-apple thorns, etc. (super glue for ear tears) I have some brush-busting, big ranging-I like a lot of run, hard hunting dogs.(especially my field trial dogs, I have one who will range 1/2 mile or better depending on terrain & how many birds are there)
