;D ;D ;D ;D Montana Spring Bear Season starts April 15, and anybody wanting to hunt bear this spring here must have their license before April 14.
We are expecting the weather to finally warm up a little this weekend so hopefully that will start some grass growing between the snowdrifts so we can find some bears!
Reports are coming in that there are some bears out of hibernation now, ( including some Grizzlies), so we can finally shake the cabin fever and start doing some real hunting here soon. WHOOPIE!!!!
The day pack is packed, the rifle is clean and oiled and sighted in, the boots are by the door. Can't tell I am a little anxious can you?
Bear tags in Montana are also over the counter for non-residents too.
oh yeah, I think that spring turkey starts the 15th too.

Only a few more days now! The tempature here hit 70 degrees today and I can see the snow is melting a little in the foothills finally.
Went out for a little while today to look around, Not much sign yet, but there is a little grass trying to come up between the snowdrifts, so hopefully by next weekend there will be enough for the bears to be using some of the clearings.
If I could find a good winter kill, that is an excellent place to stake out, but the wolves have pushed a lot of the elk out of the area, so the herds are more scattered it is harder to find a good winterkill.
If I can find a good southern exposure with clearings and grass, and maybe some wild rose hips, there should be a bear there before too long.
My main areas to the south are still getting a lot of snow, (a foot last week), so it will be May at the earliest before I can even access those areas.
Hope springs eternal. At least I can finally get out of the house!

Well, here is a quick update on the opening weekend.
The tempatures dropped to 10 degrees and a blizzard moved in so we got another 8-10 inches of snow in the valleys. between 18 and 24 inches in the mountains.
I am NOT a happy camper.
Oh well, always next weekend right? The spring season runs until June 1 and the fall season runs from September 1 to the end of November. I just wish it would stop snowing for a while!! Where is global warming when you need it??
