Very cool!! Hope you do well today!! I'm unfamiliar with hound events, can you explain what they do in this & what they look for?? (I'm sure as with any hunting dog event, they look for drive and desire, but what else for you guys??)

The dogs line up in seperate boxes, on a short dock, there's a live or mounted coon in a cage on a cable that runs across the pond to a "tree", the dogs are released, and chase the coon across the pond, dogs are judged by first one to cross the line, and then they enter a circle, painted around the tree, the first dog to bark "treed" wins tree, so they recieve points for "line" and "tree" so the fastest dog may not win if it doesn't tree, thats my dogs problem, she isn't quick to bark treed, but she swims fast enough that she has some time to figure it out and has won so far, i'm hoping by racing her she'll become more open on track and faster to bark treed, she's a silent tracker and sometimes i don't have a clue where she is, and she'll wait til she sees my light coming thru the woods to bark treed, thats just frustrating!!....jsb

Dixie won her water champion title saturday with some stiff competition, one was her littermate, "Hoss", i'm sure they'll be champions soon also, so there will be a race for grand. Jackson june 6th is next, then Unadilla on the 20th, come on guys, get those water champions out for some good competition....jsb

My dixie won her 2nd champion race at brooktondale yesterday, it's great fun watching her, but when she makes grand what do i do? CONGRATS!!!!!!!!!!!! What do you do??? Keep running her if you want!! Do they not have national rankings in this?? Our field trials do, so once a dog earns it's field championship, we can keep running them for rankings.

Very cool!! I don't mean nationals, although we have a national trial field championship...I mean national rankings for dogs defeated in regular events. Our parent club tracks winning dogs records & posts the top 10 monthly. They list them as Puppy/Derby (juvenile stakes), Open Gun dog (pros can compete as can amatuers) and Amatuer Gun dog, only Amatuers may run. They post a top 10 in each venue.

Dixie made grand water champ without losing a race, hopefully I can get her in some next year against other grands, Jeffersonville and Unadilla usually have a grand race. She didn't take to the field trials I put her in, but she treed two coon the other night and then three more a couple nights later, I'll post a rough video on the picture page...john
