trapping used to be my main source of income when I was in high school. Later on it became the way I got any extra money for anything besides the basics. A fair amount of young ladies spent the night out on the proceeds of a good day of trapping!
Now, with gas prices so high, now I usually only trap for nusience animals, mostly coyote, fox or coon, that are bothering the ranchers I hunt on. As soon as we get permission to trap wolves I will be out there no matter how much gas costs!
My primary targets have always been coyotes, but I have taken bobcat, lynx, coon, skunk, and Martin. Not much Mink around here, and while there are quite a bit of beaver, the goverment trapper usually takes them in the spring and summer when they flood roads. Muskrats are plentiful, but not worth the travel to the creeks and sloughs to get them.
It is a wonderful way to spend a winter!

grey fox have brought some good money the last two years. coon did pretty good this year. i only hunt a couple of weeks then its off to illinois for the rut and i dont likd to leave traps out during bear and deer. people are thieves. then when that is done its time to break out the hounds. no time for traps.lol
